The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is located in Mitchell, SD. It is
South Dakota’s only archaeological site that is opened to the public. There is
a short tour where a guide will explain the discoveries from the site.
There is also a reproduction of the type of shelter that the Mandan Indians
lived in. After touring the shelter and looking at some of the discoveries, you
walk out to the dig site and are able to see where the bones, fish hooks, etc.,
came from. An archaeologist is also at the site to describe what is currently
taking place and answer any questions that you might have. Cost is $6 for
adults $5 for Seniors.
