Tetons with the sun shinning

We spent 6 weeks in the Tetons this summer.  Most of the days it would rain either in the morning or afternoon, so we did not have very many sunny days.  After the fires began in Washington, the smoke was so thick, we could not see the mountains.  However, the weather was excellent.  Gary was able to catch fish every day.

Wildlife, Yellowstone, Tetons, 2015

Had a really great year viewing the wildlife in the national parks this summer.  Have to admit, we did spend lots of days trying to see a wolf.  Finally got to see some the last day.  We had to be in the park by 6:30 am and finally saw them about 9:00 pm.  Think next year we will go later in the year, as they are more active then.

Fort Bridger Rendezvous 2015

After leaving the Tetons, we decided to spend a week in Green River, Wy, so Gary could fish the Green River.  We just happened to be there over Labor Day which is the time of the Fort Bridger Rendezvous.  Since the fort was only 50 miles away, we decided to go.  What a great day.  We were able to tour the buildings and see lots of artifacts.  The original fort is no longer standing.  The Rendezvous was on the historical site of the fort.  Gary and I felt out of place.  There must have been over 2,000 people there and the majority of them were dressed in clothing that was appropriate to the the time of Fort Bridger.  They had lots of contests going on from shooting to frying pan tossing.  There were also Native American dancers there performing.  Really enjoyed the dances and their clothing.  The fishing was not great, so the Rendezvous really made our trip.

Mountain Man Museum Pinedale, Wy

This is not a large museum, but it does have some interesting items to see.  There is a Winchester gun collection of all the special Winchester guns, knives, etc., made by Winchester.  Downstairs is a collection of clothing from the past.  I thought this was a great exhibit.  Cost for Seniors was only $5.00.  Visit should take no longer than 2 or so hours.  Almost forgot, they had a great video to see about the mountain man.

Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman, Mt 2015

Wow, what a great museum to see.  I thought that all we would see would be dinosaurs, but we saw guns, cars, planes, Indian artifacts, a planetarium, and lots of dinosaurs.  The price to visit the museum was $14.75 for seniors, but I believe we got our money's worth.  We saw a lot of different types of dinosaurs that we had never heard of.  All of the bones came from somewhere in Montana.  Every room just got even better.  Even got to see clusters of dinosaur eggs.  Some of those dinosaurs sure had long legs.

Tinsley House, Bozeman, mt

The Tinsley House is part of the Museum of the Rockies.  Pretty interesting to tour.  They had some ladies inside the house explaining how the family lived.  One of the ladies was cooking biscuits, one was dying wool using yellow flowers, and another was spinning wool.  There were two blacksmiths out in the blacksmith shop working on hangers.  Really neat.

Teton National Park, July 2015

We just love our time at Teton National Park.  We were there first two weeks in July.  There was not as much snow on top of the mountains as there was last year, however, they are still beautiful to see.  We were able to see foxes just about every day as they were at the beginning of our campground.  We plan on going back in about 2 weeks.  Gary had a great time fishing on the river, he ended up catching and releasing over a 100 fish while we were there.  His only competition was the people who brought their kids down to the river and tried to teach them to skip rocks on the water or see which one could pick up the largest rock and throw it into the river.  We also had a lot of rain during our visit this year.  Mornings were beautiful, but it rained almost every night.  The mountains were usually covered by the clouds this year.

Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center 2015

This is one of my favorite places to visit when we are in West Yellowstone.  I can watch the grizzlies all day long.  This year, we went to the center 2 days.  The best time to take photos of the bears is in the afternoon.  Our tickets cost $10.75 each for seniors and tickets are good for 2 days.  Besides watching bears and wolves, the center has great movies.  If you are ever in the area, be sure to go to the center.

Independence Rock

Many pioneers passed this way and carved their initials in the rock.

Have to watch out for snakes around the rock.
