Salvation Mountain, Niland, Ca.

We went to see Salvation Mountain. Salvation Mountain is the result of a task that was undertaken by Leonard Knight over 23 years ago. He wants to share the message that God Loves Everyone. He began by using a balloon with the message of Gods love. However, the desert climate caused the ballon to rot. Thus began Salvation Mountain. Leonard has been working on Salvation Mountain for over 23 years. He has shaped part of the mountain by using the clay of the mountain and straw to make a form of adobe. People donate gallons of paint to his project. Farmers have given him over 80 bales of hay. People bring him items of wood, glass, or whatever they find and Leonard used those items in his project. 8 or 9 years ago, he began to build what he calls a museum. The museum is supported by sticks that he has put together and by trees he has built out of rubber tires. His work is also a part of the National Art of Treasure. Leonard gives out DVDs in which he conducts a tour of his mountain. His goal is to have a copy of his DVD in every nursing home. He also has puzzles and post cards of Salvation Mountain. I have posted many more pictures of Leonards work. He has also painted his message on trucks, trailers, motor bikes, and tractors that are parked at the mountain.
