Gary and I took the Jelly Belly Factory tour today. We really enjoyed seeing how they make Jelly Bellys, candy corn, and taffy. The tour is free, but leaving the gift shop can cost you some money and lots of calories. They were making cappacino jelly bellys today so the aroma in the factory was that of cappacino. They make more than 49 flavors of jelly bellys. They put all but the jalapino flavor into their mixed bag of jelly bellys. Did you know that it can take up to 20 days to create a jelly belly? The most popular flavor is wild cherry. The first jelly belly was invented in 1976. When Ronald Reagan was a presidental candidate, Time reported that he as a fan of the jelly belly. After that, the whole country wanted to taste a jelly belly. We found out that they use natural ingredients for flavoring whenever possible. Oh yes, there are 4 calories to every jelly belly, but no fat. They also make flavors mentioned in Harry Potter movies, vomit, bat wings, and other disgusting sounding stuff.
For pictures of the jelly belly mosaics and the entrance to the factory, see link on right side "our travel photos".
Come along with us as we travel across America. Gary wants to catch a fish in every state.
