South Dakota Tractor Museum

Great little Tractor museum.  We saw a couple of tractors for the first time.  What impressed me most was the flour sack dress.  My mother has often spoken of the flour sack dresses that her mom made for her and her sisters as they were growing up.  My mind always saw her in a white or brown dress.  What a surprise when I saw the flour sack dress in this museum.  It was beautiful.  Cost for the museum was a donation of whatever amount you were willing to give.

Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center, Chamberlain, SD

This museum is located at the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD.  Many exhibits to see and the movie that is shown is well worth seeing..  Museum is free but donations are accepted.  We enjoyed this museum and thought it well-worth the time to visit.

Mitchell, SD, Cabelas 2015

Gary and I always enjoy visiting this Cabelas.  Forgot my camera so had to rely on my phone for the photos.

Corn Palace Mitchell, SD 2015

The Corn Palace is still a work in progress at this time of the year.  Some of the outside murals have been completed, however the domes were not set atop the building.  We still enjoy seeing the murals made out of corn cobs.  Cost to see the Corn Palace is zero, unless you decide to purchase a shirt or something made of corn.  For more photos click here.

Mitchell Prehistoric Idian Village

The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is located in Mitchell, SD.  It is South Dakota’s only archaeological site that is opened to the public.  There is a short tour where a guide will explain the discoveries from the site.  There is also a reproduction of the type of shelter that the Mandan Indians lived in.  After touring the shelter and looking at some of the discoveries, you walk out to the dig site and are able to see where the bones, fish hooks, etc., came from.  An archaeologist is also at the site to describe what is currently taking place and answer any questions that you might have.  Cost is $6 for adults $5 for Seniors.

Birding 2015

Finally the weather turned sunny and warm.  I was able to do some birding in Rockport, Fulton, and Lamar, Texas.  Had a great day.  I divided my photos into 2 parts, part 1 and part 2.  Part 1 shows pelicans and whoopers, part 2 shows rosette spoonbills and a porpoise I managed to see while out birding.  Click here for Part 1, click here for part 2
